Coach Clinic held with Coach Fox

Big Rapids High School boy's varisity soccer coach, Justin Fox, spent two hours working with NUSC coaches Monday (Aug 30, 2010) evening.  Coach Fox started with a classroom session illustrating the use of US Youth Soccer lesson plans available to NUSC coaches through our web-site, and then took the coaches to the field where he showed them how to put some of those plans into action.  A good time was had by all. We thank Coach Fox for the clinic, and for coaching his son's U8 team.

Recreational Soccer Registration is Ending Soon

Registration for Fall 2010 ended July 21.  Late registrations are still being accepted (add $15).

NUSC has now moved to an on-line registration system.  Please use Internet Explorer 7 or higher.  Children born on or after August 1, 1996, and on or before to July 31, 2006 and are eligible to play.

US Youth Soccer Age Group Eligibility Chart:  August 1, 1996 (oldest U14) ------ July 31, 2006 (youngest U5)

Player Registration:  $65 for both seasons; $45 for single season; $15 jersey (if you don't have one).  Players will not be placed on teams if payment is not received.

The cost for a single 6 game season of play (fall 2010 or spring 2011) is $45, payable by check and mailed with the printed application form to Northland United Soccer Club, P.O. Box 114, Big Rapids, MI  49307.  Players may register for single season play (fall 2010 or spring 2011) for $45 per season.  Keep in mind, if you register for fall only, and then later choose to play in the spring, you will be charged and additional $45.  All players are required to wear a club jersey during games. U5 and U6 players have a jersey included in their fee.

Late registrations will be accepted, along with a $15 late fee.  Players who are registered late will not be guaranteed a position of a team, but will be placed as space allows.  If not placed, their payment, including the late fee, will be refunded.

Rationale: once the open registration session ends, the data is examined to determine the necessary number of teams.  Because we never have enough coaches, the tedious process of recruiting the necessary coaches begins.  When the coaches are in place, players are distributed onto teams based on gender and age.  Game schedules are printed and coach packets created for distribution at the coach meeting.  Each team has a roster maximum based on a minimum 50% game time per player and the number of players on the field during a game.

River Street Project

The River Street Project is coming along, slowly.  Most of the work is done.  We still have to fill in along the back of the field, and are looking for another 1000 yards (or so) of fill.  We have to get that leveled off for a River Walk sidewalk that will follow the tree-line.  We'll be picking rocks again in the spring, before the first cut.

Now, we have to pay for the project.  Cost of the work done so far has exceeded $40,000.  We've had some fantastic contributions, and are excited and thank full to have so many fine businesses and citizens participating in this project.  If you would like to make a donation, please feel free to call the club, e-mail, or simply send in a check (P.O. Box 114).

Weather Policy

Assume that games will played as scheduled, unless the weather conditions are really bad (downpour, lightning, or thunder).  Look to the web for cancellation notices.  If you don't see one, go to the field.  You can call your coach, but he probably won't know any more than you do, and, hearing you're reluctance to get wet, he may be tempted to cancel the game from home.  Soccer games are played in the rain.  The kids usually enjoy it; the parents don't.  On occasion, games may be cancelled by the club and rescheduled for a later date.  Cancelled games will be played at the same scheduled time, one week after the normal end of the season.  If games are cancelled by the NUSC, the cancellation will be posted on the web.  Keep an eye on the weather with  NOAA RadarPlease read more...
